Summary: | Yellowtail flounder stocks on Georges Bank were overfished from the 1970s to the mid 1990s. Since then, fishery restrictions have improved survival and recruitment has been strong so that biomass is returning to historic levels. The decline, collapse, and recovery of this fishery is reviewed using data on spatial distributions, abundance, fishing exploitation, recruitment, biomass, and age composition. The current strategy is effectively rebuilding the stocks, as shown in simulations and yield per recruit analyses. |
