Description
Summary:Fruit production had no detectable effect in reducing crown growth of female box elder trees, compared to males. Fruiting branches grew less than barren branches in 1983 (but not 1984), but the degree of growth reduction was independent of fecundity levels. Conditions under which maternal and paternal "costs of reproduction" may be equal are discussed.
