Sex pheromone chirality comparison between sibling species--California red scale and yellow scale

The California red scale, Aonidiella aurantii , and the yellow scale, A. citrina , occur sympatrically and are essentially indistinguishable from external morphology. It was shown that the sex pheromones are species specific, and subsequent chemical analyses proved that different pheromone component...

Description
Summary:The California red scale, Aonidiella aurantii , and the yellow scale, A. citrina , occur sympatrically and are essentially indistinguishable from external morphology. It was shown that the sex pheromones are species specific, and subsequent chemical analyses proved that different pheromone components were involved. The authors show that the California red scale and the yellow scale use species specific pheromone components that exhibit structural differences, but identical chirality at C-3.
