Summary: | Cortical bone is the hard outer shell of bones and the middle of long bones. Because osteoblasts and osteoclasts inhabit the surface of bones, trabecular bone is more active, thus it is more subject to bone turnover and remodeling. HO-1 participates in the MSC differentiation process, shifting the balance of MSC differentiation in favor of the osteoblast lineage by decreasing PPAR-γ and increasing osteogenic markers such as alkaline phosphatase and BMP-2. [...]HO-1 reduces oxidative stress, increases osteoblast differentiation and thus, increases bone formation and prevents osteoporosis [11]. Because LXA4 induces the production and release of eNO [25-27], this implies that estrogen-induced LXA4 synthesis prevents osteoporosis by enhancing eNO generation. |
