Summary:ABSTRACT IN SPANISH: A finales del año 2010 se dio un paso importante en el área de políticas lingüísticas en Paraguay, cuando, casi tres años después de la presentación del proyecto legislativo, la Ley de Lenguas fue finalmente aprobada y promulgada. La Ley reglamenta dos artículos de la Constitución de 1992, que otorgó al guaraní el estatus de lengua cooficial y proporcionó la base para la educación bilingüe nacional, y establece los detalles de la convivencia de las dos lenguas oficiales. El artículo presenta los aspectos más importantes de la ley, y comenta sobre las diferencias en relación con las cuatro propuestas legislativas anteriores, que surgieron a partir del año 2003. // ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: At the end of 2010, an important advance in Paraguayan language policies was made as, almost three years after the proposal of the bill, the Languages Act was finally sanctioned and enacted. The Languages Act regulates two articles of the 1992 Constitution that established the co-official status of the Guarani language and provided a basis for national bilingual education, and establishes the details of co-existence of the two official languages. The article presents the most important aspects of the bill, and comments on the differences with regard to the four previous law proposals that have appeared since 2003.
