Summary:The widely accepted argument concerning the demise of general eyre, known as eyre 'for common pleas' or 'for all pleas' in all the counties of England in 1294 and failure of revival attempts on a national scale in 1329-30 are discussed. It is concluded that the eyre had ceased to perform a central role in the judicial system, and even in the king's finance, long before the later thirteenth century.
