Summary: | Gregory Watt discussed several geological works in the "Edinburgh Review" during 1804. He would certainly have been commissioned to write a critical account of the first volume of Robert Jameson's "System of Mineralogy", and it has been supposed that he did indeed do so in the article published in the "Review" in October 1804. However, it has been suggested that the reviewer was in fact James Headrick. Headrick certainly wrote the review of another work by Jameson in the next volume. The articles in question call for an examination in regard both to authorship and content. That examination in turn may prompt further consideration of Headrick's later writings, both published and unpublished. |
