Summary:In the Deepwater Horizon case, maritime uniformity has too many themes unfolding: limitation of shipowners' liability in relation to maritime shipping, the oil exploration industry, and the marine insurance industry and in the perspective of environmental sustainability; remedies of seamen for labor-related accidents; rights of seamen and non-seafarers for death on the high seas; extension of remedies for general aviation accidents; expanded protections for oil-spill-related claims in bankruptcy proceedings. [...] it may not matter so much that Congress neglected and may ultimately neglect the issue of remedies for maritime torts.
