Description
Summary:The 33 papers and posters presented at the sixth Young Coastal Scientists and Engineers Conference held at University College London in March 2010 were of a high standard, typical of that expected at a leading international conference. They gave a good indication of the breadth of basic and applied research currently being pursued in UK universities and consultancies. Topics included coastal management, dunes, saltmarshes, beaches, swash, renewable energy, gravity-driven currents, freak waves, sediment transport, morphological modelling, nutrient and pollution transport, scour protection, liquefied natural gas facilities and submerged breakwaters. The paper below reproduces the abstracts of the keynote Peregrine Lecture and of five presentations judged by the organising committee to be of particular merit. The next UK Young Coastal Scientists and Engineers Conference will be held at the National Oceanography Centre in Liverpool and is scheduled for 30–31 March 2011.
