| Summary: | This article introduces the concept of the temporal collage as a descriptive tool for the compiled, interwoven elements of an individual's time that can accommodate the complexities and paradoxes brought about by choice in the twenty-first century. Time is described throughout as polychronic rather than linear (that is, of clocks or calendars) in order to include its cycles, juxtapositions, interconnections and linear aspects in the collage. Choice about time is perplexing for individuals, as there is a lack of consistency or coherence between different life stages, and between the way time is perceived and described in conversation with others. In this article, polychronic time comprises diverse elements drawn upon to build individualised and flexible constructs with priorities that vary from person to person and are adjusted throughout each lifetime according to circumstance and/ or choice.
