Description
Summary:Tested 28 adolescent retardates, 28 4th graders, and 28 high school sophomores on the Poggendorff illusion. The same Ss, plus 28 adults, were tested on the Oppel-Kundt illusion. No group differences were found on the Poggendorff illusion. On the Oppel-Kundt illusion, adolescent retardates were as susceptible as 9-yr-old normals, but both groups exhibited a larger illusory effect than normal 15-yr-olds and normal adults, who did not differ from each other. Results are contrary to previous findings and do not support Piaget's predictions. (15 ref.)
