Summary: | This study doubles the available evidence for office holders and senators from the late antique Balkans by publishing a large number of addenda and corrigenda to PLRE. The people collected are recorded on inscriptions from Latin-speaking provinces ranging from Raetia in the west to Scythia Minor in the east. Current scholarship on these provinces has neglected this evidence, preferring to characterize the late antique Balkans as a region almost wholly lacking in civilian society. The new evidence from Dalmatia further allows a reassessment of the position of Salona in the fifth century, and the careers of the emperors who retired there. |
