Description
Summary:Bear Healing Lodge (BHL) was a committee established in 2018 within the Faculty of Nursing at MacEwan University in Edmonton, Canada. The original mandate was to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's (TRC) Calls to Action. The initial intent was that BHL create a blueprint for the faculty to address the TRC and begin the process of reconciliation. Here, Foster-Boucher et al share the struggles they experienced in acknowledging their ongoing privilege and oppression in their roles within the BHL. They discuss what they have discovered through their work on the BHL committee and examine systemic discrimination borne of colonialism. They recognize that every individual and group will have different experiences influenced by their social location and the systems in which they live and work and recognize that no one perspective is absolute.
