Description
Summary:The purpose of this paper is to provide systematic review of quantitative research on the health and economic benefits of active physical activity among Bruneians. The independent variables are social influence, cultural influence, heredity influence, and environmental influence, while the control variables are gender, age, education, employment, income, and body mass index (BMI) with health status. The dependent variable, level of health, is tested using primary data gathered from 193 Bruneians through a survey. All independent variables except the heredity and environment influences have effects on health. It is found that the level of health is influenced by all the control variables at 5% significant level except for employment. The analysis shows that social, cultural, and environmental influence have positive impact on the level of health of the people, whereas the heredity influence show negative impact on the level of people’s health. It is also noted that the government and relevant parties should work closely to raise awareness by holding public talks to maintain a good health status, not only physically but also, mentally. It is further noticed that the encouragement and implementation of exercise programs are necessary to keep the residents of Brunei Darussalam active, especially healthy, and happy.
