Summary: | Buton Rock Asphalt (BRA) is a type of natural asphalt found on the island of Buton. Its utilization needs to be increased to reduce the increasing demand for oil asphalt. The bitumen content in BRA is about 20–30%. Therefore, it is necessary to innovate methods to optimize its use. Nano-sized waste rubber tires and waste engine oil have been added to the asphalt concrete wearing course in this study. The results have shown an increase in the resistance of the asphalt aggregate mixture from the influence of high temperatures and vehicle wheel loads. The contribution of waste engine oil is 15% of the BRA content to increase the penetration value of BRA on the pen 60/70. In this way, it has been able to reduce the need for oil asphalt in the aggregate asphalt mixture. The addition of nano-crumb rubber (NCR) to the modified BRA with the addition of waste engine oil has shown a performance close to that of oil asphalt pen 60/70. Volumetric analysis and susceptibility to high temperature and water have shown the improved performance of the modified BRA mixture. Likewise, the results of the wheel tracking machine test have shown that the addition of 1.2% NCR to the modified BRA can improve the quality of the mixture to approach the quality of the oil asphalt mixture. |
