Summary: | John Robson Owen was the only child of Norah and Jimmy Owen, born in Gravelly Hill, near Birmingham, in the last month of the 1920s. He was the first person in his family to attend university. After house jobs in Dudley, national service in the Royal Army Medical Corps, and a short period as a GP assistant in the Black Country, he moved to Southsea in 1956 and remained as GP in Portsmouth and Southsea until his retirement from general practice in 1990. In retirement he continued working part time for a further 12 years, doing medical retirement boards and advising on medical insurance. |
