Description
Summary:The objective knowledge of the game indicators that occur during the competition allows coaches to make training plans adjusted to competitive needs. The purpose of this study was to analyse the influence of venue, the effect of being the first to score and the partial and final quality of the opponent in the result, according to the moment in the season in a professional football league. Thus, 114 league competition days were analysed from the First Division of the Spanish Men’s Football League, corresponding to three seasons (2014-2015, 2015-2016 y 2016-2017), with a total of 1,140 matches. The results obtained show the advantage gained by the teams that score the first goal, whether at home or away, as they are the ones that achieve more victories. In the first round, differences were identified in all game indicators (match location, score first, final quality of the opposition), except in the partial quality of the opposition, while in the second round, significant differences were revealed in all the game indicators. Using these data, coaches should adopt the necessary changes or strategies to achieve the maximum performance from their team and thus the most positive result.
