Summary:During survey and study of local useful plants in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh a less-known species, Arivela viscosa  (L.) Raf. was observed being used as “seasoning spice” under commercial production. This paper reports on the first record on commercial use of the taxon in tribal inhabited areas of West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. A comparative account of A. viscosa in Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand Himalaya has been discussed with respect to the trends of commercialization from wild populations as well as harvest from cultivation. Details on botany and post-harvest methods have been highlighted along with marketability and cost-benefits notes in Andhra Pradesh.
