Description
Summary:Recently, abnormal corrosion of cylinder liner (CL) in marine diesel burning low sulfur fuel oil (LSFO) were raised, and difficult to confirm its mechanism. In this study, the CL materials were selected as specimens to conduct static immersion test and electrochemical test under the working environment of CL in diesel burning LSFO. Combining experimental parameters with the results of molecular dynamics simulation, the corrosion of CL were the results of chemical and electrochemical corrosion caused by water and oxides in cylinder oil residue. Moreover, the mismatches between cylinder oil and LSFO could also impact the corrosion of CL. These findings would aid in understanding the corrosion behaviors of CL in marine diesel and the potential solutions to the abnormal corrosion. •The corrosion behaviors of CL in different simulated environments were studied.•The corrosion behavior of CL was the results of chemical and electrochemical action.•The impact factors of corrosion occurred on CL under LSFO environment were clarified.
