Description
Summary:Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the decrease in dopaminergic neurons in the brain leading to motor and nonmotor symptoms. With the increased availability of cannabidiol in the United States and interest in the PD community for PD-related symptom management in complementary to pharmacologic treatment, this review provides nurse practitioners with useful information on existing studies and regulatory considerations on the implication of cannabidiol in PD. •Parkinson disease (PD) leads to many noticeable motor and nonmotor symptoms.•Pharmacologic treatments for PD symptoms have been found to be especially helpful when combined with nonpharmacologic approaches.•Cannabidiol has been used for PD symptom management.•However, more human model randomized clinical trials are needed for cannabidiol use in PD.
