Description
Summary:The fundamental processes of the initial stage of the electrical discharge through metal wires (“cold start”) are studied. A classification of the discharge types is presented; problems of the solid metal heating and melting are considered and, in view of their solutions, the mechanisms of the metastable-phase initiation leading to the drastic expansion of the substance and formation of “kern-corona” structures are investigated. The results obtained are used to analyze the conditions and properties of wire-load-explosion products in Z-pinch fast pulse installations.
