Adsorption Mechanism Study of Radionuclide 60Co by Purified and α-Fe2O3-Supported Bentonite from Radioactive Solution

The present work aimed to study the performance of bentonite purified (BMP-Na) and supported (α-Fe 2 O 3 /BMB) in the adsorption of 60 Co from radioactive solution. The adsorbents were characterized by XRD, Mossbauer, SEM, EDS and γ-Spectrometry. Kinetics and equilibrium models were evaluated for th...

Description
Summary:The present work aimed to study the performance of bentonite purified (BMP-Na) and supported (α-Fe 2 O 3 /BMB) in the adsorption of 60 Co from radioactive solution. The adsorbents were characterized by XRD, Mossbauer, SEM, EDS and γ-Spectrometry. Kinetics and equilibrium models were evaluated for the adsorption process including Boyd's film-diffusion models. The experimental results showed that the adsorption reaction was adjustable to the pseudo-second order and controlled by the intra-particle diffusion mechanism. The experimental modeling data and the equilibrium study of the adsorption followed the Langmuir model. The values of the thermodynamic parameters have shown that the adsorption process was endothermic, spontaneous and favored at high temperatures.
