Summary: | Works by John Kingerlee feature regularly in Morgan O'Driscoll auctions. Like Arthur Maderson, another popular English-born, south of Ireland-based artist favored by O'Driscoll, Kingerlee operates in a self-sufficient manner outside the Irish art establishment. He had four works in O'Driscoll's auction in November. Of these, Head caught the attention. It's one of a series of head paintings Kingerlee has created over the years. Like all Kingerlee's paintings, Head features a distinctive monogram signature that suggests a man in a boat. The painting has the eerie quality that characterizes Kingerlee's work, which often suggests ancient monuments or heraldic figures. |
