Description
Summary:The article provides a classification of titanomagnetite raw materials in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. Specific features of titanomagnetite beneficiation include taking into account the mineralogical composition of the ore and the technology of blast furnace smelting of titanomagnetites. The article presents the results of successful studies of the iron concentrate of the Volkovskoe deposit in the process of metallization. The forepart of the article introduces the results of magnetic separation of the Volkovskoye field titanomagnetite concentrate with the size of 20 µm. The research has shown that in the process of wet magnetic separation it is possible to reduce the content of titanium dioxide by 0.23% only, from 6.1% to 5.87%, which does not satisfy the conditions of the blast-furnace process. Direct reduction of the titanomagnetite concentrate by the Itmk3 technology using different additives such as CaO, Na2CO3, CaF2 has been carried out. Experiments have been carried out with the addition of low-grade coal with an ash content of 35% in the amount of 15–16%. The amount of additives has been varied from 8 to 10%. The reduction temperature has been 1450 °C. The best result has been obtained at the usage of CaF2 as an additive. Metallic pellets with an iron content of 92.9% and a titanium dioxide content of 0.27% have been obtained. In addition, titanium slag with a titanium dioxide content of 24.8% and its recovery of 99.7% has been obtained. The degree of desulfurization with fluorite has turned out to be the best, which is 65%. Sulfur content in the metal has amounted to 0.29%. Obtained metal pellets are suitable as a substitute for scrap in the process of electric melting.
