Sorption of U(VI) onto Layered Double Hydroxides of Mg and Al with β-Cyclodextrin from Aqueous Solutions

The possibility of removing U(VI) from aqueous solutions using layered double hydroxides of Mg and Al, which contain β-cyclodextrin (LDH-Mg-Al-CD), has been studied. It is found that LDH-Mg-Al-CD does not sorb [UO 2 (CO 3 ) 3 ] –4 (the sorption degree does not exceed 0.001% after 24-h contact betwee...

Description
Summary:The possibility of removing U(VI) from aqueous solutions using layered double hydroxides of Mg and Al, which contain β-cyclodextrin (LDH-Mg-Al-CD), has been studied. It is found that LDH-Mg-Al-CD does not sorb [UO 2 (CO 3 ) 3 ] –4 (the sorption degree does not exceed 0.001% after 24-h contact between the solid and liquid phases). At the same time, it is established that the application of LDH-Mg-Al-CD allows the quick and efficient cleaning of 10 –2 –10 –3 mol/L aqueous solutions of UO 2 (NO 3 ) 2 . For all the synthesized LDH-Mg-Al-CD, a degree of U(VI) sorption from 10 –3 and 10 –2 aqueous solutions of UO 2 (NO 3 ) 2 which is higher than 99.9% is achieved after 30 and 60 min of contact between the solid and liquid phases at V / m = 100 mL/g, respectively. The investigations of the liquid phase after 24-h contact between water and LDH-Mg-Al-CD with sorbed U(VI) revealed an almost complete lack of the U(VI) desorption into the aqueous phase.
