Description
Summary:Electric motors in Brazil are responsible for the consumption of about 25% of all electricity in the country and being mostly present in the industry. These equipment are used in hydraulic pumps, air compressors, elevators, etc., and must be commercialized in compliance with the energy efficiency levels, ensuring adequate energy consumption. However, several establishments0053 are commercializing refurbished motors, not complying with the standards established by energy efficiency laws. The objective of this study is to propose a methodology for a market evaluation of refurbished/repaired/reconditioning motors (RM) and to quantify the energy loss caused within this market. The methodology proposed considered the 5S total quality concept presented by Kiran to evaluate the quality of the service provided by refurbishing service firms, as an element of reducing the performance of the electric motors. As a result, the amount of losses generated by poorly refurbishment/repaired/reconditioning is estimated, and policies for improving the energy efficiency of the industrial sector with regard to these electric motors are presented.
