Summary:Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is a clinical strategy which aims to minimise the progression of antimicrobial resistance by optimising antimicrobial prescribing.1 The effective implementation of AMS also provides additional health benefits, including: improved therapeutic outcomes, minimised toxicity and improved costeffectiveness.1,2 Pharmacists are recognised as key role-players in the implementation of AMS, often serving as the “nucleus” of AMS teams, along with the physicians.1,2
