Description
Summary:This article analyzes the type of knowledge or truth constructed within the framework of criminal proceedings for human rights violations committed in a dictatorial context, and how this knowledge contributes to an understanding of the crimes, their victims, and those responsible. The article examines the long-term process of judgment of crimes committed during the last dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983), in particular, the criminal case of the Navy School of Mechanics (ESMA), one of the largest clandestine detention centers. It will discuss the second and third trials of the case (2009-2017) and the production of knowledge in relation to three themes: gender violence, the separation of survivors and their use as slave labor, and death flights (extrajudicial killings). Although the crimes committed at ESMA have been widely described through the country's transitional mechanisms and in subsequent materials, advances in investigations and the production of evidence for criminal legal proceedings have led to specific and novel contributions.
