Description
Summary:Here, Miller shares key ideas from a TEDMED talk that called for greater understanding of gender identity in educational policy, theory, and practice. He shares excerpts from that talk that called for them to expand their current understanding about how gender identity can be embedded in schooling across policy, theory, and practice and to strengthen their capacities to effect change. In his research he has discovered how extraordinarily savvy students are at developing coping strategies to preserve their spirits. They've created micro-sanctuaries outside of school, self-created spaces where they find comfort, recognition, and love. These spaces have inspired the generating, inventing, creating, trying on, and expanding of their claimed self-determined language and identity: new knowledge. Imagine the impact all of that new knowledge could have if it were integrated into the school system.
