Summary: | The field of psychotherapy has evolved tremendously over the last 50 years. In coordination with the publication of volume 50 of the
Journal of Contemporary Psychotherapy
, a historical review examines changes in the field. Most published articles have shifted their foundation from theoretical notions based on clinical case material to empirical studies based on treatment-outcome research. Along with these changes, the field has strengthened its scientific foundation, but weakened its clinical application. Overall, a historical review of the past 50 years results in a state of eudaimonia, the feeling of a healthy state of fulfillment and contentment. |
