Summary:	This review article (1) creates a knowledge map reflecting key areas of academic insight into the phenomenon of paid online peer-to-peer accommodation, (2) synthesizes these insights, and (3) points to regions on the knowledge map which require our attention in the future. This article also launches the Annals of Tourism Research Curated Collection on peer-to-peer accommodation networks, which contains past and hot off the press work on the topic and will continue to grow as new articles on the topic appear in Annals •This article synthesizes academic research on paid online peer-to-peer accommodation.•A knowledge map identifies under-researchers areas and under-utilized research designs.•A selection of research questions for the future is derived.•This review article launches the Annals Virtual Special Issue on Peer-to-Peer Accommodation.
