Summary:Exploration of new materials with improved, tunable linear and nonlinear optical property is of great interest in photonic device fabrication. Thermal, physical and optical properties of silver nanoparticle embedded GeSeSb bulk chalcogenide glasses, tunability of its linear and nonlinear properties in solution processed chalcogenide glasses with varying solute concentration are the main attractions of this study. A shift in absorption edge to higher wavelength with increased silver content in GeSeSb glasses is been observed from Tauc plots. High value of refractive index and high glass transition temperature observed in GeSeSbAg sample as compared with GeSeSb glasses are attributed to the difference in bonding statistics of these glasses. Third order optical nonlinearities of Ge Se Sb ChGs investigated using Z-scan technique shows enhancement on incorporating silver in the glass matrix which can be used to enhance desirable traits for application in nonlinear optical devices. •Ag doped chalcogenide glass(chg) shows prominent thermal, physical&optical properties.•Bandgap energy Eg of GeSeSbAg sample is found to be lower than that of GeSeSb.•Glass transition temperature&linear refractive index are higher in Ag doped chg•Nonlinear properties of chgs are tunable with solute concentration and Ag doping.•Defects states enhances nonlinear properties at higher concentrations in both samples.
