Summary:Metacognitive awareness is needed in learning because it facilitates students to manage their learning. This research aims to reveal the correlation between students’ metacognitive awareness and cognitive learning outcome on Plant material in Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School (ABBS) Surakarta. This research was conducted with a quantitative research design. The participants were 50 students (27 females; 23 males) of grade X in Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School Surakarta. Quantitative data were collected from the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) developed by Schraw and Dennison and cognitive test on Plant material based on Bloom Taxonomy. The internal consistency value of MAI instrument was α= 0.935. Validation and reliability test was conducted using 20 items cognitive test on Plant material. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Correlation. The significant positive correlation between metacognitive awareness and cognitive learning outcome were revealed (r=0.705). Finally, this research indicates that metacognitive awareness successfully correlates with the cognitive learning outcome.
