Description
Summary:Bankers find themselves in lots of situations where they need to speak: from shareholder meetings and community and business settings to briefings with local press and meetings with local and state government leaders. Sometimes these forums are friendly and inviting. Sometimes they aren't. But they're all important, and worth doing well. Giving speeches, talking to the press, and communicating in public settings with our customers and others is something we all need to pay a little more attention to. In fact, we should seek out the best opportunities and forums to communicate proactively our industry's messages and share our vision of banking. Just as important, speaking regularly to many local groups is a great and inexpensive public relations tool for community bankers. It increases the visibility of the bank and establishes the banker as a local expert. ABA provides many resources to help. You can find all ABA testimony (even mine on April 20th) at www.aba.com. ABA's comment letters to the regulators and many other government relations resources are there as well.
