Description
Summary:The two books under review differ considerably in approach and scope, but they achieve a significant measure of agreement on the essential character of the Communist threat to the Southeast Asian area and what can be done to meet it. Professor King undertakes a critical evaluation of the entire field of American postwar policy within the area, while the briefer British study discusses the narrower topic of the Manila Treaty of 1954 and its implications. It is convenient to deal first with the shorter account.
