Summary: | To understand the molecular mechanisms of the neuroprotective effect of semax in cerebral ischemia, a study analyzed for the first time the effect of semax and the C-terminal tripeptide PGP on the expression of mRNAs of 84 genes that control growth factors and their receptors under conditions of the experimental focal cerebral ischemia of rats. Results suggest that two-type growth factors serve as targets for semax and PGP: the nervous tissue (neurons and glial cells) and the vessel wall cells. The neuroprotective effects of semax and PGP on the ischemic brain could be related to their inuence on the expression of the growth factor genes and receptors responsible for the function of nervous tissue and vessels. |
