Description
Summary:Personal library of Constance W. Glenn, founding director of the University Art Museum, California State University, Long Beach, consisting of 6,000 monographs, journals, art gallery and museum publications, and unique ephemera tracing the history of post-1950 American modern and contemporary art and photography. Sample highlights include the exceptional facsimile Garnet de Dessins de Picasso (Cahiers d'Art, 1948); White Shroud by Francesco Clemente and Alien Ginsberg (1984); Writings, 1973-1983 by Michael Asher (Halifax, Nova Scotia, 1983); Captiva, an exhibition catalogue from the Vancouver Art Gallery (1978), and a nearly complete set of the periodical Parkett. The 40,000 photographic prints, 35,000 negatives, 120 photo albums, and 450 reels of motion picture film chronicle the development of Southern California from 1887 to the 1950s, as well as major projects such as the construction of Big Creek, the hydroelectric system established by Henry Huntington in the opening decades of the twentieth century.
