Summary: | An abstract of a study by Tamiya et al analyzing the results and complications of syringopleural shunting operations that they have performed for syringomyelia is presented. The study authors found out that syringopleural shunting alone for non-communicating syringomyelia has satisfactory results. However, in communicating syringomyelia craniocervical decompression, syringopleural shunting might be the method of choice. Although there are complications, it is believed that with careful surgery and experience, better results could be achieved. |
