Description
Summary:Orlando Gibbons' 'Orlando was his name,' now in the library of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, is probably the only extant composition obviously written for Charles as Prince of Wales. The round was composed in honor of Charles' return from his unsuccessful courtship of the Spanish Infanta in 1623. Apart from its historical value, the piece suggests an intimate relationship between Charles and the singers in royal service and widens one's idea of acceptable musical entertainment for 17th-century royalty.
