Summary: | To perform its numerous tasks which involve feeding and water intake, sexual and mating behavior as well as regulation of daily physiological cycles and mediation of emotional responses, the hypothalamus is part of the humoral regulatory feedback loop known as HPA axis, while also maintaining numerous neuronal connections to many parts of the brain[Swaab 2003]. Potential applications of functional hypothalamic imaging could also include research of eating disorders and interactions between sleep disturbances and eating disorders (e.g. night-eaters). |
