Summary: | Several studies have been undertaken which analyse the price elasticities of demand for energy in the
aggregate manufacturing sectors of different countries. This paper investigates the impact of changing energy prices on factor demands in each of the many
subsectors of manufacturing in Canada. Translog cost functions are estimated and the energy price elasticities of demand are derived. These elasticities enable us to pinpoint those sectors that will have the most difficulty in adapting to high energy prices. |
