Summary:Causes such as globalization, neo-liberal economic policies, changes in the composition of employment and in laws and increasing the managerial prerogative of the employer have led to the decline of the number of unionized workers in the last 30 years. However, these causes should be investigated in detailed by the micro-based studies. Therefore the aim of this study is to do a case study on the reasons for employees not to join a union. The question of not unionising may have connection with the lack of confidence about unions, the poor policies of unions and variety workplace practices. For this purpose, a case study on the reasons of not join a union has been conducted at a multinational Japanese company. The scope of the research are interviews with employees, trade union representatives who wish to organize in the workplace and the daily news about the organization of this plant in local news sites and reviews of this news. The interviewee workers have been reached with the snowball method. The obtained data were reviewed by descriptive analysis. Consequently, reasons for employees to not join a union are associated with not only generally reasons but also lack of trust toward union, union avoidance strategies of employers, inadequate policies of the unions.
