Summary:The concept of Regional Centres was introduced in the Revised Concept Plant of Singapore 1991. This paper examines the impact of the Regional Centre on shopping patterns of HDB residents in Tampines New Town. Change in residents' shopping behaviour and patterns is analysed through data obtained from a questionnaire survey. The results show that the HDB residents who used to shop for convenience goods within the new town but travel downtown for shopping goods can now fulfil their shopping needs for both shopping goods and convenience goods partially at the retail establishments located in the Tampines Regional Centre. When the Centre is fully developed, it is likely that frequent outshoppers to downtown and the neighbourhood centres will reduce their outshopping trips.
