Description
Summary:Elder narrates that some patients simply defy the natural history of their disease whether in 1955 or today. This is no place more evident than the large number of childhood survivors of chronic medical disease arriving into the world of internal medicine. For many of these survivors and the physicians who care for them, he tells that it is hard to precisely define the factors that make improbable longevity possible, most likely because they are unique to the individual. For the physician, like him, perhaps the best approach is humility.
