Summary:This article examines the position of Russia in global international ratings. The correlation between indicators that are used for comparison of countries in the field of innovation development and their compliance with the targets of the Strategy for the Innovative Development of the Russian Federation until 2020 is shown. Conclusions on the orientation of targets and long-term priorities for the development of Russia on the development of separate elements of the innovation system that are not focused on the accumulated experience on the building of a knowledge economy are made.
