Summary: | Jenkins and Nolan investigate whether, given that dispositions need not be manifested, need it even be possible for them to manifest? Can something be disposed a certain way despite the fact that it not only does not but cannot ever manifest that disposition? There are unmanifestable dispositions, and this is no mere isolated philosophical factoid. Relying on our grasp of them seems to be an important part of prediction and explanation in psychological matters and also matters not involving agents; they raise new and interesting philosophical issues; and they appear to have general ramifications for questions about how to understand dispositions.
