Summary: | The High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Chinese Academy of Sciences is developing a 40 T hybrid magnet. The hybrid magnet cryostat consists of two separate but attached cryostats. The main function of the cryostats is to provide a thermal barrier between the ambient temperature experimental hall and the supercritical helium forced cooled superconducting magnet. It also provides feed-through penetrations for all the connecting elements inside and outside the cryostat. The Outsert Magnet Cryostat is a large vacuum vessel with cylindrical shell, standard elliptical top, and flat bottom. The structural analyses, including buckling, for the cryostat vessel have been carried out using finite element code. Stress analysis results show that the maximum Von Mises stress will be below the allowable value. In this paper, we focus on the structural analyses and design of the cryostat. |
