Summary: | In this work a new analytical method for calculating the one-loop self-energy correction to the Lamb shift is presented in detail. The technique relies on division into the low and the high energy parts. The low energy part is calculated using the multipole expansion and the high energy part is calculated by expanding the Dirac-Coulomb propagator in powers of the Coulomb field. The obtained results are in agreement with those previously known, but are more accurate. A new theoretical value of the Lamb shift is also given. |
