Summary:This article addresses the fate of institutionalized patients in Greece during World War II and the Civil War that followed, the treatment of Greek Jews and Gypsies by the occupiers, the psychological effects of war on the general population, the fate of "rescued" children, and the second generation studies of victims of the Civil War and the Holocaust in Greece. The winter of1941-42 was marked by tens of thousands of deaths across the country as the direct result of starvation, psychiatric patients included.
