Summary:Objective: The documentary series Unnatural Causes (California Newsreel, 2008) is frequently recommended as a guide for promoting knowledge about health and healthcare disparities. Our study was designed to collect baseline data from students prior to viewing the series and to assess their ability to detect errors in their health disparities knowledge. Participants: Fifty-three college students between the ages of 20 and 53, with a mean age of 27 years (SD±9.5 years), participated. Methods: This cross-sectional survey study was adapted from one developed to accompany viewing of Unnatural Causes. Results: Findings showed that the average number of correct survey responses was 5.92+2.59, based on a range from 0 to 21.
